Controller

Are you an accounting and operations professional who is ready to help build a leading quantitative investment firm? Cambrian is seeking to hire a detail-oriented individual to fulfill and grow in the role of Controller.

You will report directly to the VP of Finance & Chief Compliance Officer and also work closely with the Manager of Investor Relations, the President,  and the CFO of Cambrian Asset Management Inc.

You will assist the VP of Finance and CFO in the management of all ongoing financial and operational aspects of fund accounting, corporate accounting, treasury management, audit and tax, valuation, and assisting the investor relations team with client-related requests.

Minimum Requirements

  • 5+ years of overall accounting and operations experience in the alternative investment industry.
  • Knowledge of fund and partnership GAAP accounting and internal controls.
  • Experience with trade operations, settlement, and clearance processes.
  • Strong IT/computer skills: OMS, office productivity, accounting software, advanced excel skills, and experience with QuickBooks
  • Unquestionable integrity and good values.
  • Organized, thorough and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organization skills.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A self-starter who is hard-working and results-oriented.

Preferred Requirements

  • CPA, CFA or equivalent is preferred.
  • Prior working experience with digital assets is preferred but not a must.
  • Previous working experience with hedge fund partnership tax returns and corporate tax planning is a plus.


Primary Responsibilities

  Funds

  • Daily fund operations: cash and position reconciliations, settlement, borrow, expense allocations, etc.
  • Interaction and supervision of fund service providers, including fund administrators, auditors, and tax preparers.
  • Preparation of internal fund accounting and reconciliations to third-party fund administrator reporting.
  • Treasury: fund cash flow management, preparation of expense payment LOAs for internal review and sign-off.
  • Audit & tax: preparation of audit and tax requests, initial review of audited financials and annual K-1s.
  • Investor reporting: preparation of monthly tear sheets and decks for internal review, assisting the Investor Relations team with ad-hoc client requests.

  Corporate

  • Maintenance of corporate books and assistance with corporate filings.
  • Treasury: corporate cash flow management, preparing expense payments for internal approval.
  • Audit & tax: preparation of audit and tax requests, initial review of audited financials and annual tax return filings.

Software Engineer

Are you a software engineer who loves taking on challenging and exciting problems? Cambrian is looking to add another talented developer to our tight team of engineers working at the intersection of finance and technology. We are a highly collaborative and supportive group of professionals in a remote-first organization. Our goal is to earn our investors exceptional, uncorrelated absolute returns while limiting downside risks. We use data-driven, probabilistic models and sophisticated, automated trade execution algorithms. We have been in business since 2017, are well capitalized, profitable, and growing quickly. Cambrian’s investors include notable quantitative, hedge fund and technology investors from firms such as Renaissance Technologies, First Round Capital, and Google. 

This role will support the data engineers and senior software engineers to continue building our research and trading infrastructure. You should be proficient in key languages such as Python and Javascript. You will also have the opportunity to explore technologies that may be new to you such as machine learning, time series analysis, devops, and quantitative financial analysis.

Cambrian is very much a technology company with a heavy emphasis on research and development. You do not need experience in finance to succeed in this role. This role would be an excellent opportunity for someone who has experience in software development but is looking to learn new skills.

Minimum Requirements

  • 1 or more years of software development experience at a technology company or an advanced degree in computer science
  • Experience with git version control, branching and rebasing.
  • Proficiency with Python and Javascript
  • Experience with React preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the engineering team and Chief Investment Officers to design, develop, and deploy sophisticated quantitative trading strategies.
  • Continue development of high-performance systems that make sub-millisecond trading decisions with almost zero downtime.
